Inspire. Lead. Connect.
Become a docent at the Newark Museum! You might be wondering, what is a docent? A docent is a trained tour guide for the museum. Docents create a space for visitors to learn about art and discuss their thoughts and ideas.
Do you like to learn? Do you enjoy sharing experiences with others? When you find out an interesting fact or tidbit, are you dying to share it with someone?
Then being a docent might be right for you!
At the Newark Museum tours are key way for us to connect our visitors with our incredible collection. Tours typically last 45 minutes and allow visitors to connect more deeply with our art and share their own experiences. Our docents go through a training course to become equipped to lead tours in the museum. Weekly training sessions on art, engagement techniques, learning styles, and public speaking skills give our docents the tools they need to lead a fun and interesting tour. After completing training docents are required to lead tours each month and attend continuing education classes.
