Artist Bisa Butler invites you into the world of her recent piece The Warmth of Other Sons, now in The Newark Museum of Art’s collection. Butler’s vibrant work depicts the African American life experience through stunning life-sized quilts.
The Warmth of Other Sons is loosely based on historic photographs of Black families that migrated from the South to the North looking for economic prosperity. The title is a reference to the critically acclaimed book by Isabel Wilkerson, The Warmth of Other Suns, chronicling America’s Great Migration.
