In 1909, librarian John Cotton Dana had the innovative idea of what museums could be, a space where science and art would come together to be relatable and accessible for visitors. Building a space in the upper levels of the Newark Public Library, the Newark Museum had its humble beginnings. From these beginnings, a business and community partnership developed that would forever change the impact of the museum. It was in 1923 when Louis Bamberger, businessman and philanthropist, announced he would fund the construction of a separate space for the Museum as well as donate many artistic and scientific artifacts from his personal collection. Thus, the Newark Museum was fully brought to life by a partnership of business and culture.
Through Bamberger’s generosity and that of many corporations since, the Newark Museum has been able to continue and build upon Dana’s vision, creating a community anchor that has provided the basis for a healthy business and cultural environment. Businesses involved with the Newark Museum preserve and showcase artistic masterpieces and support us finding new ways to teach and inspire individuals with these objects. By becoming a corporate supporter, your company can fulfill its philanthropic goals, receive all the benefits of a museum partnership, and achieve valuable visibility and recognition in this vibrant gathering place for the community, all while furthering the legacy of the Newark Museum as New Jersey’s leading interdisciplinary educator.
Partnering to support an exhibition or education program can further your company’s philanthropy goals and/or provide a wealth of marketing benefits for your organization all while helping to provide cultural, scientific and educational opportunities for diverse school and public audiences.
