Via NJ Turnpike

  • New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 15W.
  • Exit 15W to I-280 West.
  • Take Exit 15 toward 21 Newark Broad Street
  • Turn right onto 21 South
  • Turn right onto Bridge Street
  • Turn left onto Broad Street
  • Turn right onto Washington Place
  • Turn left onto Halsey Street
  • Turn right onto Central Avenue
  • Turn right onto Washington Street (crossing immediately to the left)
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot


Driving from the East - From the Lincoln Tunnel

  • Lincoln Tunnel to New Jersey Turnpike South.
  • Exit 15W to I-280 West.
  • Take Exit 15 toward 21 Newark Broad Street.
  • Turn right onto 21 South.
  • Turn right onto Bridge Street.
  • Turn left onto Broad Street.
  • Turn right onto Washington Place.
  • Turn left onto Halsey Street.
  • Turn right onto Central Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Washington Street. (crossing immediately to the left)
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot.


Driving from the East - From the Holland Tunnel

  • Holland Tunnel to New Jersey Turnpike North.
  • Exit 15W to I-280 West.
  • Take Exit 15 toward 21 Newark Broad Street.
  • Turn right onto 21 South.
  • Turn right onto Bridge Street.
  • Turn left onto Broad Street.
  • Turn right onto Washington Place.
  • Turn left onto Halsey Street.
  • Turn right onto Central Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Washington Street. (crossing immediately to the left)
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot.


Driving from the North or South via The Garden State Parkway

  • Garden State Parkway, Exit 145 to Route 280 East.
  • Bear right following signs for Newark/Harrison.
  • Take Exit 14B M L King Blvd.
  • At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto M.L. King Jr. Blvd.
  • Make 1st left onto Orange Street.
  • Turn right onto University Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Central Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Washington Street.
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot.


Driving via Route 78

  • Take Route 78 Local lanes following signs to 1-9 South to 21 North.
  • Take Exit 57 - Route 21 North, Newark.
  • Continue on 21 North for 1.8 miles to Market Street.
  • Turn left onto Market Street.
  • Continue on Market Street for 1/3 mile to M.L. King Jr. Blvd.
  • Turn right onto M.L. King Jr. Blvd.
  • Continue on M.L. King Jr. Blvd to Central Avenue.
  • Turn right onto Central Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Washington Street.
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot.

 Driving from the West - via Route 280

  • Take Route 280 East.
  • Bear right following signs for Newark/Harrison, Downtown Arts District, Exit 15.
  • Take Exit 15.
  • At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Route 21 South.
  • Continue past Bridge Street, Lombardy Street, Fulton Street, Rector Street and Center Street.
  • Turn right onto Raymond Boulevard.
  • Continue on Raymond Boulevard past Broad Street.
  • Turn right onto Washington Street. (stay to the left)
  • Continue on Washington Street four blocks.
  • Pass Central Avenue and quickly turn left into Museum parking lot.  


Driving from the Newark Airport

  • Follow signs for 1-9 Newark-Elizabeth.
  • Take Route 1-9 North to Route 21 North, McCarter Highway.
  • Continue on 21 North for 1.8 miles to Market Street.
  • Turn left onto Market Street.
  • Continue on Market Street for 1/3 mile to M.L. King Jr. Blvd.
  • Turn right onto M.L. King Jr. Blvd.
  • Continue on M.L. King Jr. Blvd ½ mile to Orange Street.
  • Turn right onto Orange Street.
  • Make 3rd right onto University Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Central Avenue
  • Turn left onto Washington Street
  • Quickly turn left into the Museum parking lot

By Public Transportation 


Train 
NJ Transit trains go to Newark Penn Station and Broad Street Station.

PATH trains go to Newark Penn Station.

AMTRAK: 1-800-USA-RAIL, http://www.amtrak.com/

From Penn Station - The Newark Light Rail connects Penn Station to the Broad Street Station.  There are two options for taking the Light Rail to the Museum:

1) Take the Light Rail to the Broad Street Stop.  Next, transfer to the Light Rail that takes you to the Washington Park stop. The Museum is located across the Park on Washington Street.

(or)

2) Take the Light Rail to the Atlantic Street Stop.  Exit to your right.  Walk past the parking garage on your left toward Lombardy Street.  Make a right onto Lombardy Street.  Walk toward Broad Street and cross over to Washington Park.  The Museum is located across the Park on Washington Street.

Note: The Light Rail operates every 10 minutes during rush hour, every 15 minutes during non-peak hours and every 30 minutes on weekends and major holidays.

Bus
NJ Transit buses go to Newark Penn Station.
From Newark Penn Station–Transit Bus #'s 11, 28, 29, 44 & 72.
From Broad St. Station–#13 or #27 to Broad St./Washington Pl. (Walk 2 blocks along park to Museum).

Parking
Attended on-site parking, provided by Central Parking, an independent operator, is available (for a nominal fee) in the Museum parking lot, with entrances located at Washington St. and Central Ave.  Click here for parking fee details.
NOTE: Visitors may be required to leave their car keys with the Parking Attendants. 
*Subject to availability. Additional parking for special events is available in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Parking Lot ( University Ave. and James St. ) or the Edison Parking Lots ( Central Ave. between Washington and Broad St .)
