The Newark Museum of Art Internship Programs

(Due to Covid-19, cancelled for 2020.)

The Newark Museum of Art Internship Programs are designed to provide interns with an overview of the Museum industry at large and The Newark Museum of Art specifically, as well as the Museums’ partnership with the City of Newark. Internship opportunities are offered year-round in all of its major departments including Curatorial, Registrar, Education, Marketing/Public Relations, Exhibition Design and Library.   Interns work on an array of projects and depending on academic training, experience and stated interest, are assigned to a specific staff member, or in some cases, to a department at large. Applicants of all educational and career backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
 
Candidates must submit an application by the deadlines listed below in order to be considered for the time frame indicated.

Summer Internship Program
During the summer a limited number of internships are awarded to students who are entering their second year of college.  In addition to working within a museum department, students take part in a more expanded orientation process, learning in-depth about museum careers, as well as other art, science and education opportunities at institutions in the city of Newark and throughout the state.  
 
Highlights:
• Paid stipend for program participation
• Eight-week internship program
• Hands-on mentorship
• Departmental presentations and curatorial tours
• Field trips to other museums and cultural institutions
• Hands-on experience within a specific department
• Lunchtime (meet-up)  sessions with other interns
• Access to learn about other departments of interest
• Eligible for course credit
 
Qualifications:
• Completion of at least one year at a  college or university
• Pursing a degree in art, education, or other related fields
 
Internship Dates:  June 15, 2020 - August 7, 2020
 
Application Deadline:  March 27, 2020
 
 
Academic Year Internship Program
The Museum offers unpaid internship opportunities during the academic year for students and recent college graduates during the fall and winter sessions. These opportunities are typically based on the business needs of the department for a particular semester.
 
Highlights:
• Hands-on mentorship within a Museum department
• Eligible for course credit
 
Qualifications:
• Current or recent graduate of a college or university
• Pursuing a degree in art, history and other related fields
 
Internship Dates: 
Winter Session:   January – March 2020
Fall Session:   September – December 2020
 
Application Deadline:   Four weeks prior to the session
