Virtual Homeschool: Sculptures, January 20, 10am
$10 per student
Students will take a slow look at sculptures from the Newark Museum of Art’s collection and have a conversation to understand how the selected works can connect to their lives. Following the deep observation activities, students will create their own sculpture using every day materials.

Join us for our annual celebration honoring the life and legacy of one of this nation’s greatest heroes: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year we highlight how barriers were broken and continue to be broken with a woman of color and Asian descent soon to become vice president of the United States.

Our solar system is home to the Sun, several major planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids and comets. But how far apart is everything? Join us as we build a simple scale model of the distances between the planets, the asteroid belt, and the Kuiper belt.

“Studio Snapshot” is a new series of short videos exploring the work of Newark contemporary artists. In this video, artist Layqa Nuna Yawar discusses his work, how being an immigrant from Ecuador informs his practice, and why he sees Newark as the best place to create art.
Layqa Nuna Yawar’s work is featured in the Art + Tech: Perception | Access | Power virtual exhibition.

Ask an Astronomer: A Cosmic Perspective -- Searching for Aliens, Finding Ourselves, Noon
Are we alone in the universe? Humans have been asking this question throughout history. We want to know where we came from, how we fit into the cosmos, and where we are going. Dr. Jill Tarter, our guest speaker, is an award-winning astronomer renowned for her research on SETI, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Her work inspired the main character of Carl Sagan's novel and movie Contact.
